Energy developer database and rankings
The FieldProspects developer database holds 1,074 company profiles, 981 of them with at least one attributed project. A developer is attributed to 17.2% of the 36,480 planned and operating projects. NextEra Energy ranks first by attributed capacity, at 48.5 GW across 266 projects.

How to read developer numbers
A project counts toward a developer only when the database records that company against it. Every ranking here is therefore a ranking of attributed projects, not of market share. Of 36,480 projects, 6,262 are attributed (17.2%). They hold 31.1% of all capacity, so attributed projects tend to be larger than the rest.
Attribution differs sharply by table, as the second table below shows. Among projects it is strongest for the pipeline and weakest for the installed fleet. The ranking is by capacity. Ranked by project count instead, NextEra Energy leads with 266 attributed projects.
Benchmark figures exist for 694 of the 1,074 profiles. They are an upstream count of a company's projects and capacity, they use a different method from the attributed counts on this page, and they are never added to them. Profiles with no attributed project number 93, and they exist for their benchmark figures only.
The ten largest developers by attributed capacity
| Rank | Company | Attributed projects | Attributed capacity |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | NextEra Energy | 266 | 48.5 GW |
| 2 | Invenergy | 163 | 31.7 GW |
| 3 | Intersect Power | 59 | 26.4 GW |
| 4 | Engie | 131 | 21.9 GW |
| 5 | Hecate Energy | 49 | 19.1 GW |
| 6 | AES Clean Energy | 121 | 16.2 GW |
| 7 | RWE | 98 | 16 GW |
| 8 | Avantus | 59 | 14.2 GW |
| 9 | EDF Renewables | 69 | 13.1 GW |
| 10 | EDP Renewables | 85 | 12.8 GW |
Based on attributed projects only: 6,262 of 36,480 (17.2%). 981 companies have at least one. NextEra Energy and Invenergy lead the list. A project is one generating unit, not a plant.
How much of each table names a developer
| Table | Rows | With a developer | Share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Planned projects | 8,057 | 4,095 | 50.8% |
| Operating plants | 28,423 | 2,167 | 7.6% |
| All projects | 36,480 | 6,262 | 17.2% |
| Data centers, active | 3,626 | 3,592 | 99.1% |
The project rows attribute a developer to a generating unit. The data center row counts active sites that name a company, canceled sites excluded.
What is a power project developer?
A power project developer is the company that proposes and advances a power project. In this database the developer is the company recorded against a project in its source. Where no company is recorded, the project has no developer and is left out of every developer total.
What approved accounts can do with developers
The full developer table sets every company pipeline against what it has actually delivered, so a national developer is easy to tell from a regional one. Accounts filter projects by developer, and the filtered result exports to CSV or Excel. No card required.
