US data center database

The FieldProspects data center database lists 3,671 planned, under-construction, operating and canceled data centers. The 3,130 active ones that state a power load add up to 453.5 GW. Amazon has the most active sites, with 751. Figures are as of October 2026.

Data as of

What the data center table contains

Each row is one data center site. Status is planned (1,807), under construction (477), operating (1,319) or canceled (45), and 23 rows state no status. Active means any status except canceled, which leaves 3,626 sites in 45 states. Virginia has the most, with 853.

Power load in megawatts is the headline field. 86.3% of active sites state one, and the stated loads add up to 453.5 GW. That total under-counts, because a site that discloses no load adds nothing. Planned sites state 344.4 GW, under-construction sites 47 GW and operating sites 62.2 GW.

The other fields are thinner. Across all 3,671 rows, building square footage is present for 81%, operating year for 69.9%, land acreage for 19.5% and capital expenditure for 7.2%. A company is named for 99.1% of active sites, spread across 468 companies.

Where the data centers are

The ten states with the most active data centers
StateData centersStated power load
Virginia 853 58.5 GW
Texas 535 105.3 GW
Ohio 246 29.2 GW
Georgia 180 19.4 GW
Indiana 155 16.9 GW
Arizona 155 16.5 GW
Pennsylvania 150 18.5 GW
Oregon 138 8.2 GW
Illinois 112 11.3 GW
Iowa 92 7.6 GW

The load column adds up the sites in each state that state a load, so a state with many undisclosed sites reads low.

How complete the data center table is

Data centers: rows with a value in each field
Capacity 85.9% (3,154 of 3,671)
Developer named 99% (3,635 of 3,671)
County 99.2% (3,641 of 3,671)

What is a data center in this table?

A data center is a facility or campus recorded once per site and compiled from public announcements, permits and company filings. Its power load is the capacity in megawatts disclosed in those sources, and the field is left empty when none is disclosed.

What approved accounts can see

The full table puts planned and operating campuses, with load, acreage, footprint and capex, next to the generation that could serve them. Accounts are approved by hand, and the seven-day trial covers all five tables with an export of up to 250 rows.
