Power industry rankings
FieldProspects publishes two company rankings from its database of 36,480 US power projects and 3,671 data center records. Solar developers are ranked by attributed capacity, led by NextEra Energy at 26.8 GW. Data center developers are ranked by count, led by Amazon. Each page states how many records have a developer.
Data as of
| Ranking | Ranked by | Leader | Records with a developer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Largest solar developers in the US by attributed capacity | Attributed solar capacity | NextEra Energy, 26.8 GW | 3,655 of 11,790 (31%) |
| Who is building data centers in the US? | Number of data centers | Amazon, 751 data centers | 3,592 of 3,626 (99.1%) |
How the rankings are built
Every ranking is a company total: a name, a count and a capacity. A project or data center counts toward a company only when the database records that company as its developer, so each page states next to its table how much of the market that covers. The figures are an attributed view of the database, not market share.
The two rankings start from different denominators. Across all 36,480 power projects, 17.2% have a developer attributed, and for solar alone the figure is 31%. Data centers that are not canceled are far better covered: 99.1% name a developer.
There is no natural gas developer ranking. Only 2.1% of gas projects have a developer attributed, so a ranking would describe that small attributed slice and not the gas market. Gas is covered on its technology page instead.
