ERCOT interconnection queue: planned projects by technology and year

The ERCOT interconnection queue in the FieldProspects database lists 2,359 planned power projects totalling 532.2 GW, alongside 2,290 operating projects. Solar is the largest planned technology at 190 GW, and battery storage follows at 186 GW. Every planned project is in Texas.

Data as of

What is the ERCOT interconnection queue?

The ERCOT interconnection queue is the list of power plants and battery projects that have asked the Electric Reliability Council of Texas for permission to connect to its grid. Each request is studied before it may connect, so the list shows what developers intend to build well before construction starts.

ERCOT planned and operating projects

The planned ERCOT pipeline is 2.9 times the capacity of the operating fleet: 532.2 GW across 2,359 projects, against 182 GW across 2,290. Of the planned entries, 1,835 come from the ERCOT generator interconnection queue and 524 are planned units from federal generator filings.

Battery storage has the most entries, 1,047, while solar has the most capacity. The gap is size: among entries that state a capacity, the average planned solar entry is 239.8 MW and the average planned battery entry is 189.5 MW. Natural gas adds 320 entries and 95.4 GW, and wind 179 entries and 53.3 GW.

Every planned ERCOT project in the database is in Texas, so the grid and the state describe the same pipeline.

When ERCOT projects are expected in service

Expected in-service years run from 2026 to 2033. 2028 is the peak, with 713 projects and 163.4 GW, and 2027 to 2029 together hold 1,751 projects and 74.7% of planned capacity. Only 29 entries carry a year that has already passed, and none lack a date.

These are the expected in-service dates given in the sources. They record an intention, not a commitment.

Five of the largest planned ERCOT entries

The five large planned ERCOT entries shown here run from 1.5 GW to 2 GW, against an average of 233.1 MW across the 2,283 planned entries that state a capacity. Names are shown as the source lists them. An entry can be one unit or one phase of a larger plant, so each figure is that entry alone.

What the database adds for ERCOT

On this page a planned project is a name and a number. In the database each of the 2,359 planned ERCOT rows also carries its county and status, the developer where one is attributed, and the contacts at that developer. A developer is attributed on 70.7% of planned ERCOT projects (1,668 of 2,359), the highest share among the four grids with a page here, and on 12% of operating ones.

Filter the ERCOT rows by technology, capacity band, county, year or developer, and export the filtered list as CSV or Excel.
