What changed in US power queues
FieldProspects compares every snapshot of its database with the one before it. Between June 4 and October 8, 2026, 882 planned projects in US interconnection queues were cancelled (180.2 GW), 1,020 slipped their in-service dates by a median of 182 days, and 587 new projects joined the queues.
Data center records grew from 1,705 to 3,671 between the two snapshots. Project counts above cover planned power projects in interconnection queues. Bars compare MW across the seven change types; each tile links to its rows below.
Cancelled against added MW, by grid operator
Planned queue MW that was cancelled or newly added between the two snapshots, seven ISO and RTO queues.
Balancing areas outside the seven ISO queues added a further 7.3 GW across 72 projects. Cancellations are recorded only in the seven queues.

PJM shed 22 MW for every 1 it added
PJM cancelled 106.3 GW across 628 projects and added 4.8 GW. CAISO cancelled 52.8 GW.
ERCOT went the other way. It added 43 GW, more than any other grid. Six of the eight largest additions in the country are natural gas plants in ERCOT.
Cancellations clear queue positions. For developers waiting behind them in PJM, that can move study dates. Members can filter the cancelled list by state, county and technology.

Battery storage and solar led the cancellations. Natural gas led the additions by MW, solar by project count.

How we detect a change
- Matching
- Each planned project keeps its queue ID across snapshots. We compare the June 4, 2026 and October 8, 2026 snapshots project by project.
- Added
- In the October planned list and not in June.
- Came online, cancelled, inactive
- In June's planned list, gone from October's, and now in the operating, cancelled or inactive table. 183 projects left the planned list without turning up in another table; they are not counted on this page.
- Agreement, construction
- The interconnection agreement or construction flag turned on between the two snapshots.
- Slipped, pulled forward
- The listed in-service date moved later or earlier. The median slip was 182 days.
